The Baltimore Blades and defeated the Denver Spurs with a four game sweep. Even tho the final outcome makes it look like a cake walk, it was the furthest thing from it. The Spurs came out in every game looking for the win. Each game was a close game, one went to overtime and with the exception of game four that had the Blades win by a 7-2 margin, the Spurs competed hard.
The President Trophy Blades continued their very successful year and will now have to wait to see who they will face in Round two. As of now it looks like the Racers may be our next opponent, a team which we had little to no success against in the regular season. In 5 games played between the two clubs, the Blades won one game, lost two, tied one and lost another in overtime.
In the four games against the Spurs the early playoff team scoring leaders are Alexander Mogilny and Todd Marchant with 7 points a piece. In fact everyone on the roster with the exception of two (Boogard/Peltier) have at least one point. Hopefully the team can continue to be a threat no matter who is on the ice. Mogilny has been a pleasent surprise, having a sub-par season. He started the season with the Blades, then moving to St. Louis then Vancouver before returning to the Blades just before trade deadline. It is expected that Mogilny will be a UFA next season as contract negotiations have stalled.
On a side note, the Wasington Capitals have came back in their series with the Juneau Warriers and have tied the series at 2 and hope that momentum can carry on to games five and six.
We would like to wish everyone currently in the playoffs goodluck!
