Hunter S. Division.

What exactly does that “S” stand for anyway? Is it Strength? Is it Solid? Could it stand for Superior, as in “this division is superior to the others“? Whatever the meaning is, the members of the BuHL would have to agree on one thing, that this is the division to beat.
The Hartford Whalers, New Jersey Knights and Baltimore Blades are the three strongest teams in the league at the moment. They rank first, second and third respectively in their division. They rank first, second and third respectively in points for their conference and they rank first, second and third respectively in points for the entire BuHL league. The three teams have flip-flopped almost nightly the entire season as to who leads the division.
My bet is that the Blades (especially with 3 games in hand) come out on top at the end of the season.
“My father taught me one thing in life, and that was to never f**k Up. With that being said, the Blades will be on Top!” David Biskup says with a smile in a recent interview.
What or who makes these three teams so good? Well, the Whalers have Jeff O’Neill and Paul Kariya, two of the best forwards in the game. One brings flash and skills while the other brings hard work and toughness. Together, they bring an offence that is extremely hard to keep up with. The Knights have Chris Osgood, who is an elite goaltender in this league, a veteran winner. They also have a very offensive back end with Niedermayer, Spacek and Redden shooting cannons from the point. The Blades have a little bit of everything, some of the best defenseman, mixed with strong power forwards; add a dash of speed and a reliable tandem in goal. A recipe for success.
Whalers vs. Knights (Whalers lead season series 2-1-0)
Whalers vs. Blades (Blades lead season series 2-1-0)
Blades vs. Knights (Knights leads season series 3-1-0)
Goals For: Goals Against:
Whalers (198) Knights (133)
Blades (174) Blades (146)
Knights (165) Whalers (157)
You have to give the Dallas American a lot of respect (especially since acquiring Zigmund Palffy) as they are and will continue to be a threat throughout the season. As will the Detroit Red Wings, but no one can argue that the three teams above are definitely not teams you should take lightly. I for one will be very disappointed with anything less than a championship this season.
