St. Louis, MO (AP)-
The Blues are currently tied for last place along with the Aero’s who are tied. Many are wondering what is management thinking? They did make some big moves earlier in the season but then yet trading it away. We were able to sit down with general manager Burkholder
Joe Colburn (JC): Welcome Mr. Burkholder.
Neil Burkholder (NB): Thanks for having me, you can just call me Neil on a side note, I can let loose a little.
JC: Ok Neil, how do you feel about your teams play?
NB: I wont lie, its kind of disappointing with some of our moves we made, that’s why lately you seen us go back to our youth focused team. We’ve had a year now and really nothing has came to fruition yet. We understand how the fans feel, and we promise it will change in the upcoming years.
JC: Well you been really quiet, why is that?
NB: With this team there really isn’t a lot to talk about, which people are probably saying going to say WHAT! We’ve got a great mix of youth now, and with this deep draft class and having a shot to get a true phenom in Sidney Crosby if we keep on a losing path would be great dividends for us.
JC: Do you really think that would happen?
NB: Yeah he is a franchise changing type of guy. He’d fit in nice, and we have enough cash to go out and sign some top flight free agents and we can turn this around in a year or two. It just takes time, and I’m willing to wait.
JC: You acquired Roenick this season how did that come about?
NB: Roenick has a crazy character and we wanted him just to sell some tickets. It’s a business and a guy like Jeremy sells some tickets and for a year he’s a great guy to hold onto. Our attendance has been very high for the team circumstances so we love to thank the fans for their doing.
JC: You did get a potential franchise goalie in Kari Lehtonen this season, Do you think he might be the answer in net?
NB: We think the world of Kari and we were lucky we were able to get him. He is going to be in our long term future, and we think he’ll be one of the leagues best goalies. Really we have a good trio with Pekka Rinne that we drafted last season, David LeNevue, and Jason Labarbera. That’s a good young trio, and we hope one of them will establish themselves as a true backup for Kari.
JC: Thanks Neil for coming
NB: Your welcome Joe
