Negotiations got heated, but in the end cooler heads prevailed. The result, Baltimore signs their remaining RFA's to muti-year contract extentions. Patrick Marleau, Mike York and Alexander Perezhogin will try to find their place again on a team that already has a few games under their belts.
The most difficult part in signing these players was the fact that the Blades are in serious danger of playing over the allowable cap of 45 million. And because of this, GM Bskup was not willing to offer these players what the were asking for. "They wanted alot, a lot more than I was willing to give. Luckily, both sides were able to come to an agreement, one that satisfied the payers needs and the organizations" commented the GM.
When asked how much "certain players" wanted, he replied "enough to seriously consider taking the compensation if the situation had permitted."
Gm David Biskup will now have the task of squeezing the right players into the pro-roster and allowing some others an chance to develop more in the minors.
The Blades will be taking a close look at any and all offers that come their way that could eleviate their salary cap dilema.
