A few concerns have been raised in the past few days.
Historically if one person asks a question, at least three others are thinking the same thing. Or worse, talking amongst themselves without bringing it up. So I'm here to try to address a few of those issues before I head off to sleep tonight. (Different I know, we like to run a ship that's centered around open communication, it's like a relationship, only less pain is involved.)
1. Lack of Pre-Season.
I think this one might have caught people off guard. New SIM. Give GMs a bit of a chance at a learning curve. I didn't see it like that. We weren't doing the "Pre-Season Developmental Re-Rates" this year, part of the reason for the development of the farm club was the explicit purpose of being able to get rid of Player Camps, Developmental Re-Rates and a few other things that don't come to mind right now. The off season drug on and on, for a really long time. While a Pre-season would have been nice, it would have been lip service and delayed the regular season. Players play differently and outside of STHS experience, I couldn't see the benefit in delaying the regular season more than it already was.
2. Stat imbalance?
PO and FO specifically. The potential stat for anyone in the SIM before the prospect creations was automatically generated. I *think* the formula was a combo of FHL OV and Age. When I imported the FHL stats, I had to set a global variable to knock most players down by a wack load of Potential, then sift through, make a few adjustments and move on. Else everyone under 24 would be in the high 80's for PO and anyone under 20 would be around the 99 mark, in the BuHL, the PO stat doesn't work like that.
FO was a specific case. It was calculated by combining PH, SP and something else (going off the top of my head here) so any speedy forward or D-man had a FO of 80+. What I did was apply a global variable to kill FO for D-men and manually run through the forwards. I tried to keep Centermen above/around 50 (I used 50 as the target average for the draft class) and toyed from there. I generally tried to keep wingers below 50, under the impression that they're not taking 10+ faceoffs a game, so the stat isn't going to be a major focus, playing on the wing the player shouldn't be concerned about taking many faceoffs. This creates a problem. If a player can play all forward positions or is interchangeable to center AND wasn't a centerman when I made the migration, he was put at a penalty. (There was no way in hell I was going to manually sift through all the wingers to ensure they could play in the middle and adjust accordingly.)
That being said, here's the solution. Keep moving your players around as you feel fit and when someone is moved to the middle, I'll make a note and review the FO stat. Likely I'll check their FO% in the NHL and adjust accordingly. Forewarning: Don't go expecting a player to jump from 45 FO to 80 FO just because you put him at center.
The Potential stat will work itself out over time. I'm developing a formula that'll give players a really good career development arc as well as a good guideline for me to work by when it comes to future rerates and prospect development.
3. Missed RFA Offersheets.
Any RFA offersheets received during the depths of the UFA field weren't efficiently processed. The reason is two fold. A: Wasn't entirely sure who was handling the RFA Offersheets at the time. B: Was deep in the busy of the UFA season, had higher priorities. (Harsh, maybe, but honest.) If your RFA offer was missed, sorry. My bad.
Any other concerns that need to be addressed, please email me, PM me or reply below. Keep in mind that while a lot of you are getting used to STHS, there's also a learning curve on the management end of things. We learn and develop the league through feedback and suggestions. So for the love of all things holy, if you have a recommendation or comment, SPEAK UP DAMMIT.
