With thoughts of landing a superstar Dman, GM Swaikoski went into the draft thinking he was picking 3rd. After some miss communication and revamping of the draft order, via the Lottery, instead of picking 3rd and 8th the Nords moved up to 1st OV and 7th. Although the team has tons of depth up front GM Swaikoski didn't even think twice about changing his mind and taking Alexander Ovechkin. With the 7th pick the Nords landed a stellar, and future star dman in Alexander Edler.
"Ovechkin will make an immediate impact on our team. The amount of ability and skill he brings is unbelievable and will no doubt land him as one of the Premier Forwards in this league, not to mention the world!" Stated GM Swaikoski after the draft. With yet another winger in the mix grumblings are that of Roenick being the odd man out in the crowded locker room. The team has yet to officially release it's trade block but no doubt he will headline it.
GM Swaikoski was then asked about his second pick. "What can I say about an 18 yr old kid who is 6' 3" tall and weighs 220lbs." He then smirked and continued on, "he brings more size and speed, that never hurts a team, he also is one of the most completely rounded young dmen then I have seen in years. We are excited to continue to build this championship team adding these 2 great pieces!" Edler comes into an average defensive core which the team may still be looking to add to via trade or Free Agency. The latest word is that of a possible move which could include Kuba being brought over.
As for the other rounds the team is looking to add more young dmen hoping that they may able to mature on the farm and maybe even get lucky with a late round pick that might of slipped through the crack.
An official team release will follow with more team plans and what the team will look like at the start of the next campaign.
