I know its abit early as standings can change ( ill be doing the eastern conference and maybe the west ) but this is what i wanted to do to kill time.
1. Chicago Blackhawk v.s 8. Calgary Flames
This will be a matchup of league veterans that is sure to make things interesting in the east. Why? because if theres an upset then the flames become favorites to win the cup. If Chicago wins it will show the east that they're for real. Chitown wins if they can manage to keep the flames in the box and completely smother Turco. The flames take this series if they can keep the big 3 under control and keep cool. Chicago in 7
Key players:
Vinny Lecavalier- Will look to expand on what was a HUGE season by adding some pts in the playoffs. Centering Tkachuk and Alfredsson only makes him more dangerous.
pt predictions for this series g3 a6 +/- 7
Brad Stuart- Has a cross to bear having to defend against one of the leagues best offenses but will log a ton of minutes in order to counter the threat.
pt predictions: g0 a4 +/- 2
Marty Turco- a former cup winner and one of the best conditioned goaltenders league wide Turco will be expected to stand on his head this entire series. I also think that he'll steal a game or 2.
stat predictions: W3 L4 So1 PCT:%0.907
#2 Pittsburgh Penguins v.s #7 Toronto MapleLeafs
The pens are a talent rich team looking to make a splash in their debut on the big show. The team is solid both defensively and offensively and their goaltending is more than formidable. While the leafs offensive is as potent, their defense leaves something to be desired. The leafs goaltending will carry them a long way in this series but not enough to help them win it. Pens in 6
Key Players:
Nik Lidstrom: Just cuz hes Nik Lidstrom
pt predictions: g1 a4 +5
Pavel Datsyuk: Will be depended on as secondary scoring will look to overwhelm the pens. Will become someone either Richter or Thibault grow to hate.
stats prediction:G4 A4 +/- 3
Ed Belfour: This isnt Ed's first time to the playoffs and definately not his last he will be depended on to lead the leafs out of the first round and he might just do it if the defense stays consistent.
Stats predictions: w2 l2 so:0 pct 0.900
#3 Ottawa Senators v.s Montreal Canadiens
On paper this looks like unfair and I'm probably right. Tho Montreal has gotten here through good coaching and good defense I think itll be abit much to handle when not only do you have to deal with Joe Thornton but Martin Broduer as well. This doesnt bode well for the habs. ottawa in 5
Key Players:
Martin Broduer- Surely enough he will make things difficult for montreal and will be looking to make his case for free agency by having a strong playoff showing and possibly another cup to add to his already impressive awards.
Stats prediction: W4 L1 SO 1 pct: .911
Marian Hossa- As Ottawa's best goal scorer you can be assured that he will go into this series looking to make a statement. His speed combined with his nose for the net will be sure to make Montreal miserable. G4 A3 +/-5
Sergei Gonchar- The best defenseman on the habs squad will be expected to play big minutes and have a defensive presence comparable to Ray Borque. With the minutes he'll be logging that isnt too much of a long shot. G3 A2 +/-3
#4 Philadelphia Flyers v.s #5 Detroit Redwings
My personal favorite to win the cup in philly v.s my favorite team in detroit. Tough to pick but I'll say the flyers take it. My reason being is that the flyers are simply too tough they've got excellent defense.A defense that will be insane for detroit to slip through and will probably drive Gm Lawrence crazy trying to solve them. Then there's Giguere which is a whole other story. Philly in 6
Key Players:
Eric Lindros- top 3 in the league and prolly the best all around centermen in the league He's going to have a huge playoffs and this series will be the foundation. G5 A6 +/- 7
Joe Sakic- If its anyone who can lead the wings deep into the playoffs itll be Burnaby Joe. Playing against The Big E will definately spur his competitive juices and he can and will change a game just how much though depends on how hard his supporting cast works. G4 A2 +/- 2
sorry these predictions were so crappy. Im kinda short for time and am at work. Hence them being compacted.
